Moving Forward Together

Response and Recovery During These Unprecedented Times

Every day , Jewish Family Service helps vulnerable San Diegans access food , financial assistance , and other vital community resources as our city continues to be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic .
JFS receives countless calls from people like Cari , who was already reeling from losing her job pre-pandemic when her husband was laid off . It was the first time her family needed to ask for help , made even more difficult by the fact that they did not qualify for other types of assistance . She says , “ Finding JFS was a blessing and takes a great deal of stress out of my daily life .”
Too many in our region are having to make difficult choices between paying their rent or mortgage , putting food on the table , paying for vital prescriptions , or keeping the lights on at home — no one should have to make these choices . JFS remains committed to helping San Diegans of all faiths , backgrounds , and ages make it through the COVID-19 crisis — and beyond .
In March , we immediately shifted our focus to provide the services most urgently needed . Services that not only offer critical support , but also comfort , hope , and compassion .
Comfort for isolated seniors who rely on JFS to stay engaged with their community and stave off the hunger and loneliness that may result from difficult , but necessary stay-at-home orders .
Hope for immigrants and asylum-seekers fleeing from the violence and persecution that does not stop simply because our world is in the midst of a global health crisis — and neither will the work of the JFS Immigration Team to advocate on their behalf .
