AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION SAN DIEGO DIVISION ’ S Circle of Red
Since 2004 , the American Heart Association Go Red for Women movement has educated millions of women as to their No . 1 health threat : cardiovascular disease . But now we face a new challenge , younger women and women of color are not aware that this threat is real . To compound the challenge , heart disease is also leading cause of death among new moms .
Cardiovascular complications occur in 10 to 20 percent of all pregnancies in the United States , and these rates are rising . Women who develop cardiovascular conditions during pregnancy have a significantly higher risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke later in life , especially Latina and Black women .
The American Heart Association continues to innovate ways to ensure all women are aware of their greatest health threat , their risks and what they can do to reduce them . Good health is a journey , not a destination , and the goals is to walk hand in hand with women throughout their lifetimes as their trusted wellness partner .

The American Heart Association and its supporters , including the Circle of Red giving society , have been relentless in their pursuit to raise awareness and fund life-saving research , much of which is studied and performed right here in San Diego . Circle of Red is a group of influential women dedicated to supporting the mission and work of the American Heart Association San Diego Division .
This year ’ s Go Red for Women Experience will include honoring the legacy and impact of past Circle of Red Chair Donna Marie Robinson , who often stressed to her peers that “ We have a voice . And that voice is stronger together . And we are making an impact .”
The time is now . The need is real . Our strength is unmatched . There is no greater , more relentless force in the world than women united with passion and purpose .
