2019 SDAFF Spring Showcase
Today , SDAFF remains one of the largest showcases of Asian and Asian American Pacifi c Islander cinema in the United States , with a focus on bringing the highest quality fi lms - regardless of budget or well-known stars - that would otherwise be inaccessible to audiences .
In addition to the main festival each Fall , Pac Arts also continues to present the SDAFF Spring Showcase , which will celebrate its 10th edition from April 23 to May 2 . This year ’ s 10-day festival is anticipated to include at least a dozen fi lms as well as both live and pre-recorded Q & A discussions with feature fi lmmakers . For those who are looking to explore the festival for the fi rst time , the SDAFF Spring Showcase is a fantastic introductory opportunity .
Pac Arts has also stepped up its advocacy work over the last year - recognizing that these are critical times for Asian , Asian American , and Pacifi c Islander voices to be represented in media .
In response to increased racism and xenophobia impacting Asian Pacifi c Islander ( API ) communities at the start of the pandemic , Pac Arts worked alongside numerous partners to bring together more than 70 API-serving organizations in a joint statement denouncing anti-API hate . Their work in 2020 included crafting a San Diego City Council resolution denouncing racism and xenophobia as well as advocacy for an API-representative seat on the County ’ s newly re-established Human Relations Commission .
Their continued advocacy throughout 2020 is a strong reminder that Pac Arts ’ mission has always been about much more than just presenting fi lms - as their efforts continue to showcase their ongoing desire to build and connect stronger and more compassionate communities on multiple fronts . In fact , Pac Arts now serves as the fi scal sponsor for the newly established San Diego Asian Pacifi c Islander Coalition , a platform bringing APIserving organizations together for collaboration , communication and advocacy .
