Friday. The Rev. Roy
Ferguson, founder and
senior pastor of the congregation has announced
his retirement after 45
years in the ministry. The
church has called Asst.
Pastor Micah Burt to be
the next minister.
Rev. Ferguson’s final
sermon was Sunday. The
Ferguson’s have lived in
Emporia since 1999. Vicki
Ferguson has been a regular, certified elementary
grades substitute teacher
for the Emporia School
District. The couple plan
to move to Kansas City in
order to be closer to their
children.
Rev. Burt is originally
from Cheney and a 2014
graduate of Maranatha
Baptist University (Wisconsin). He interned with
Rev. Ferguson and was ordained earlier this year.

pastor, the Rev. Mike
Knapp, who has been
serving as interim pastor
since October.
Knapp has been in
the ministry 25 years,
including two at HCC
from 2007-09. His goal is
to create a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere where
people can “test-drive”
church and connect with
God.

The Lyon County Highway Department reports that
beginning today Road 110 between roads W and X will
be closed for approximately 3 weeks.

OBITUARIES
Betty Lee Mounkes, 88, of Bushong, Kansas died
Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Newman Regional
Health, Emporia, KS.
Betty Lee was born February 24, 1927 in Reading,
Kansas the daughter of Jacob and Hazel (Peet) Sattler.
She was a farmer and rancher all of her life. Betty also
worked 20 years at Dolly Madison Bakery in Emporia and
was a bartender for 20 years.
Betty married Harold Mounkes on August 12, 1948
in Emporia, Kansas. He died July 27, 2005 in Emporia.
She is survived by two grandsons, Scott Van Gorden
of Shawnee, Kansas and Sean Van Gorden of Shawnee,
Kansas; two great grandchildren, Tyler Van Gorden and
