Donald “Shorty” LeRoy Johnson, of Americus,
entered into rest Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Newman
Regional. He was 83.
Don was born November 01, 1932 in Pawnee City,
Nebraska to Harold “H.M.” and Pearl L. (Wittwer)
Johnson. He honorably served his nation through service
in the Army. He married Laura M. Kracke September 11,
1955. He belonged to the Amateur Radio club, Optimist
club, the Lutheran Layman League, and the American
Legion. He was an active member of Messiah Lutheran
Church.
Don is survived by his wife of the home; sons, David
Johnson and Daniel (Kary) Johnson of Americus;
daughters, LaVonne (Robert) Good of Berryton,
and Lorna (Darrell) Harden of Americus; brothers,
Jerry (Sharon) Johnson of Booneville, AR, Richard
(Irene) Johnson of Olpe, Gene Johnson of Denver, CO;
grandchildren, Brian Good, Karla Blanchard, Shannon
Simone, Adam Good, Wes Harden, Justin Johnson,
James “J.D.” Donald Johnson, and Abigail Johnson; great
grandchildren, Allyssa Harden, Rylee Simone, Ryan
Osage, and Patrick Niedfeldt. He is preceded in death by
his parents.
Services will be officiated by Pastor Tegtmeier at 11:00
a.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Messiah Lutheran
Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m.
to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Charter
Funerals. Memorial contributions may be made to the
Lutheran Hour Ministries or the Disabled Vets in care of
Charter Funerals.
