Mast reacts to RNC trip

By Peggy Mast Special to the Gazette
Editor ’ s Note : Kansas State Rep . Peggy Mast ( R- Emporia ) spent the week of July 18-22 in Cleveland for the Republican National Convention . She shared some of her thoughts on the experience with The Gazette .
I have returned from the convention and it was a very exciting experience . I was extremely impressed with the quality of the people I met there . Although I was surrounded by thousands of people , I did not experience anyone who was less than perfectly polite . The people of Cleveland welcomed us with open arms . There were very many law enforcement ( officials ) from all across the nation there to make sure we were safe and they were all so pleasant as well .
I was also very impressed with the quality of people who Donald Trump associates with . Bob Dole was sitting in the dignitaries seat with a Trump family member the first night and then later moved down onto the floor to sit with the Kansas Delegation . He was happy to be a part of the action .
( On day two , there were ) lots of celebrities like Duck Dynasty ’ s Willie Robertson ; Marcus Luttrell the Lone Survivor and Navy Seal ( he was amazing ),
Pat Smith ( A Gold Star Mom of a Navy Seal that was shot down ( I think it was Extortion 17 ), — he tugged at our heart strings — Mark Geist and John Tiegen , Security Team from Benghazi and advisors to the movie 13 Hours and Former New York City Mayor , Rudy Giuliani . It was American Hero Day on steroids ! Very patriotic and very moving . Mrs . Melania Trump then spoke to bring the more gentile side into focus . It was a very arousing day . The theme of the day was Make America Safe Again .
