No residents were home but two family pets died in a fire that destroyed a home in Emporia early Wednesday morning .
At 2 a . m ., Emporia Fire Department responded to a structure fire reported at
323 Rural St . Upon arrival , the front porch and living room of the home were heavily involved in fire .
“ Emporia firefighters made a fast attack on the fire with a quick knockdown of the main fire and a quick search for victims ,” Battalion Chief Steve Howe said . “ All residents were out of the home prior to the arrival
of the fire department .”
Two firefighters suffered heat related issues and were relieved of their duties briefly before assisting in efforts outside the house .
Upon further investigation , it was determined the fire — which spread through the walls and caused damage throughout the home — was electrical in nature .
