Fish Fry I
A fish fry to benefit the North Lyon County Youth
Association will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday
at the community center in Allen. The menu features
catfish, chicken strips, hush puppies, baked beans,
coleslaw and homemade desserts, all for a free-will
donation. A silent auction includes passes to Schlitterbahn Waterpark, Disney World and sporting events,
and a fire pit and outdoor heater (bidding closes at
7:30 p.m.). All are welcome.
The Emporia Eastside Community Group is having
a fish fry fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at
the Lee Beran Recreation Center, 313 W. Fourth Ave.
A catfish dinner is $9, or $8 for seniors, Extra sides
are a la carte. All are welcome. Information: Al Slappy,

Out of the Darkness
A community walk to benefit suicide prevention will
be held at noon Saturday at Emporia State University’s
Welch Stadium. Registration begins at 10 a.m. The
walk is one mile. Raising money is not a requirement
however those who raise $100 will receive a T-shirt.

Penny Supper
The Hartford United Methodist Women will hold a
Penny Supper at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Some menu items include ham loaf ($2.25), chicken
pie ($2), pork cutlet ($2.50), a variety of salads and
vegetables ($.50), homemade rolls and cornbread
($.50), cake ($.75), homemade pie ($2 per slice),
homemade ice cream ($.75) and coffee or tea ($.75).
All are welcome to join in good food and fellowship.
The church is at 300 College St.
Betty L. Scheve, 88, of Olpe died
March 29, 2016 at her home.
Betty was born on September
26, 1927 in Emporia, Kansas, the
daughter of Allen and Myrtle Murray
Vickrey. She married Lawrence
J. Scheve on January 31, 1946 in
Emporia. He died on June 16, 1993
in Olpe.
Surviving family members
include: daughters, Phyllis Krueger and the
late husband James of Olpe, Sharon Stierwalt
and husband Leon of Edmond, Oklahoma, and
Sheila Broyles and husband Danny of Madison,
Kansas; sister, Elnora French of Emporia, Kansas;
grandchildren, Christopher J. Krueger, Rayna Bush,
Trenna Hanlin, Dominic Krueger, Donovan Krueger,
Tonya Stallings, Danny Joe Broyles, Amanda Steffes,
Carrie Scheve, Christie Winkler; thirty three greatgrandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband;
son, Glen Scheve; five sisters; and two brothers.
Betty worked for years at Crawford Manufacturing
and Modine Manufacturing before retiring 26 years
ago. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic
Church, Olpe, St. Ann’s Alter Society, V.F.W. Ladies
Auxiliary, and Happy Homemakers.
Cremation is planned with Mass of Christian burial
at 10:00 A.M., Friday, April 1, 2016 at the St. Joseph
Catholic Church in Olpe. Visitation will be Thursday
night at 6:30 P.M. with the Rosary starting at 7:30
at the church. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph
Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions to St.
Joseph Catholic Church can be sent in care of RobertsBlue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. You can leave
