“I’ve always had to be in
the window,” Piper said “I
used to think that was fun
but now that I’ve gotten a
chance to cook I like that a
lot better.”
Piper said he was grateful for the crowds because
it meant the troop has the
support of the community.
Kathy Herrera was one
such member of the community. Herrera said her
son used to be a scout and
supports the lessons the
program teaches.
“I think it’s really cool
to see them so young and
so polite,” Herrera said. “I
admire the people who are
teaching them manners,
respect and how to serve
others. The pancakes were
delicious as well.”
It was praise which
didn’t go unnoticed by
the scouts. Caleb Schmid,
13, said he arrived to help
set up for the event at 5
a.m. but seeing the crowd
made it worth it.
“It’s kind of hard getting up that early,” Schmid
said. “But there’s motivation with seeing how many people show up. To see
how many people show up
is pretty cool.”
According to Bryson,
the event teaches the
scouts hard work due to
the months of set-up. In
addition to a lesson on
thrift, as 100-percent of
the funds will go to the
scouts who worked.
“ They can use the
money they earned for
anything scout-related,”
Bryson said. “It can be
any camping equipment,
clothing they need for
scouts, camp outs, high
adventure, summer camp,
things like that.”
Piper said he plans to
put his funds towards a
trip to West Virginia in the
