Taelyn Kendall Westcott
Kelly and Travis Westcott of Emporia are the parents of a daughter , Taelyn Kendall Westcott , born June 26 , 2016 at Newman Regional Health .
Taelyn ’ s siblings are Kimberlee , Phoebe and Max .
UMW Ice Cream social
The Neosho Rapids United Methodist Women will hold their second Ice Cream Social of the summer at 5:30 p . m . tonight in the Community Building for a free-will offering . They will be serving homemade ice cream , pies , cakes , sandwiches and drinks . Also the Bazaar Quilt will be on display and there will a bake table including fresh produce .
ABWA meets
The Emporia Charter Chapter of the American Business Women ’ s Association will meet at 6 p . m . Tuesday following dinner at 1217 Presby Dr . The speaker will be Nancy Hargett , who is with the Lyon County Active After Disaster group . She will give a presentation about what plans the county has in place in the event of a disaster . Board members sought
The Humane Society of the Flint Hills is currently seeking dedicated individuals to serve on the Board of Directors . The Board is responsible for the management of the Emporia Animal Shelter and the care of the animals . This is a working board . Board members are expected to attend monthly meetings as well as attend and participate in fundraising functions . Those who are interested and feel they can be of benefit are invited to call the office at 620-342-4477 .
Head Start applications
ECKAN Head Start is hosting an Open Application Day 10 a . m . - 6 p . m . Wednesday at 1130 Scott St . Staff are accepting applications for children birth to 4 years old and pregnant mothers . Their options include : home-based , center-based and family child care programs for birth to 3 and home-based , center-based programs for 3 to 5 yr olds .

Dining for Denim & Diamonds , a fundraiser for the Newman Regional Health Auxiliary , is Thursday at Coach ’ s Neighborhood Bar & Grill , 2702 W . 15th Ave . A percentage of the day ’ s receipts will be donated to Denim & Diamonds for the purchase of a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber .

Pioneer Bluffs writing workshop

Virginia A . Kirk Paine of Admire died Wednesday , July 13 , 2016 , at Vintage Park Assisted Living in Osage City . She was 99 .
Ms . Paine was a Psychometric Technician in the Bureau of Tests and Measurement at Emporia State

A funeral service will be held at 2 p . m . Wednesday , July 27 , at the Admire United Methodist Church . A complete obituary will be published later . Robert ’ s Blue-Barnett Funeral Home has the arrangements .
Baby Nova MarieLynn Scarberry- Hernandez was born asleep to Tennille Scarberry and Robert Hernandez on July 6th , 2016 at 9:39 p . m . In our heart you hold a place no one can fill .
Nova is survived by her parents ; grandparents , Monica Masters , Denise and Jason Harvey ; great grandparents , Dan Scarberry , Fred Masters and Bernie Adams , Rita and Richard Harvey ; great great grandparents , Fred and Naomi Masters . She is also survived by godmother , Jordan Kiser ; uncles , Terence and Alex Hernandez , Clay Harvey ; aunts , Nichole , Ellissa , Tyria and Trinity Harvey .
Nova was preceded in death by her great grandmother Linda Scarberry .
She was surrounded in love by many family and friends . You took a part of us with you and touched our hearts forever .
The family will hold a private memorial at a later date .
Gene Tomson
Gene Tomson , 86 , of Iola , KS , father of Jana Bowyer & husband , Chris of Emporia , and grandfather of Andy Bowyer , Clint Bowyer and Casey Bowyer , died Friday in Iola .
Gene was a retired farmer and foreman for the City of Iola Street and Alley Department .
He is also survived by his wife , Leah ; daughter , Marta Edwards & companion Scott Crystal of Overland Park , KS ; son , Kent Tomson & wife , Ronda of Iola ; and 2 more grandchildren , Aaron Edwards and Kylee DePrima .
Visitation will be 6-8 p . m . Monday , July 18 , 2016 , at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service , 16 N . Buckeye , Iola , KS 66749 . Funeral services will be 11 a . m . Tuesday , July 19 , 2016 at Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola , with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery .
