Sharon Elaine Prochaska of Emporia died Monday, February 22, 2016 in
rural Emporia. She was
67.
The Lyon County Treasurer’s Office reports that Monday
is the final day for those who own commercial vehicles,
heavy trucks, farm trucks or trailers or whose name ends in
“A” to renew their automobile tags. Motor Vehicle hours are
8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Owners need to provide proof of insurance and a valid Kansas driver’s license.
Generational poverty speaker Wednesday
The Iota Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor
Society for Educators at Emporia State University is hosting
Generational Poverty Speaker Rebecca Lewis on March 2.
This free talk is at 7 p.m. in Webb Hall, second floor of the
Memorial Union. KDP invites the community to hear her
moving presentation on what it means to live in poverty in
Kansas.
Swim lessons
The Lee Beran Recreation Center offers ongoing swim
lessons. Sessions are Monday and Wednesday evenings or
Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 313 W. Fourth Ave. Registration for the next series of classes, Feb. 29 through March

Nominations open
Emporia American Legion Post 5 is accepting nominations for officers. Those who are interested should speak
with the nominating committee, Dave Welch and Dan Scarberry. They will present a list of nominees at the membership

Story times at the Library
Next week’s themes for story times at the Emporia Public
Library, 110 E. Sixth Ave., will be “Eric Carle’s World” for PatA-Cake and Mother Goose, while Preschool Story Time will
be “Colorful Storytime!”
Pat-A-Cake Club is for infants to 18 months and meets at
9:15 a.m. Thursday.
Mother Goose Time is for toddlers to 36 months and
meets at 9:45 a.m. Monday and Thursday.
Preschool Story Time is for 3 to 5 year olds and meets at
10:30 a.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Logan Avenue blood drive
Logan Avenue Elementary will sponsor a Blood Drive
from 2 to 6 p.m. March 8 in the school gym. The blood drive
is part of the school’s Pennies for Patients campaign going on
this month to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Adults interested in donating blood can call the school
for an appointment, 341-2264, Appointments also can be
made online at www.redcross.org/give-blood, select “Find a
Drive,” and enter 66801 to see the Logan Avenue event.
A memorial service will
be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday,
