Bileigh Youngblood of Emporia finished in first with 78 points while Mason McDonald of Madison came in second with a time of 5.57 seconds and Tyler King of Council Grove finishing third with a time of 4.18 seconds .

The competition then moved onto the main event with the “ Buck , Rumble & Roll ” featuring more experienced riders and bulls .

Ethan Saffer , 18 , of Oskaloosa was the first rider of the night to score points in the competition , as the bulls bucked furiously out of the gate .

“ I ’ m pretty pumped ,” Saffer said . “... Just kind of been down on my confidence and felt good to pick it back up .”

Saffer said the key to a consistent bull ride is keeping a center of gravity on the bull .

“ A lot of ( bull riding ) is staying up on your rope ,”

he said . “ Getting your chest balanced and your shoulders square with your hips . Once your shoulders are square with your hips and your hips are square with the bull you ’ re in the center of it .

“ Keep your free arm in the correct spot and you ’ re riding on it — mostly .”

His most important advice of the night however , was what to do when you eventually fall off the bull .

“ You just got to get out of the way ,” he said .

Saffer finished first overall in bull riding with 150 points on two bulls while Jimmy Vaughn of Tonganoxie finished with 77 points on a single bull .

“ Buck , Rumble & Roll ” also featured freestyle bullfighting , with Tyler White of Silver Lake finishing in first with 76 points and Keith Engler of Topeka and Dakota Knight of Lebo tied for second with a score of 74 points each .
