Distribución de Prendas
The Jubilee Ringers of Emporia are available to play for
a $25 donation, which includes three songs, a plate of homemade cookies and a personalized card. Hours are 10 a.m. to 1
p.m. Saturday and 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Call Cheryl Doty today,
340-3574. Proceeds will help pay for the bell choir’s trip to the
Handbell Musicians of America conference.
Planetarium shows Saturday
Emporia State University’s Peterson Planetarium presents
“The Little Star That Could” and “Night Skies over Emporia”
at 10 and 11 a.m. Saturday.
The planetarium is located in Science Hall, Room 031, on
the west side of campus. There is ample parking in the lots
along Merchant Street. Admission is free however seating is
limited; to reserve a seat, call 341-5636.
Cloverton Sunday
Christian band Cloverton will give a Christmas concert at
7 p.m. Sunday at Life Church, 1801 Graphic Arts for a freewill offering.
Tree of Remembrance
Those who wish to recognize family members on the
Hand In Hand Hospice Tree of Remembrance are able to purchase this year’s golden capiz shell angel ornament through
Dec. 17. For $20, the ornament will display the loved one’s
name and be hung on the agency’s tree until Dec. 18, when
they may be picked up and taken home. The office is at 1127
Chestnut St., the third floor of Cora Miller Hall. Hours are 8
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Information: 340-6177.
DeLane Drive Toy Drive
The Delane Drive Toy Drive is 6 to 9 p.m. tonight and Saturday along DeLane, Darlene, Diane and Hillcrest in northwest Emporia. Homes are decorated, luminaria are lit and
Santa will accept toys and donations for SOS and The Salvation Army. Vehicles and pedestrians are welcome; please dim
vehicle lights in the neighborhood to enhance the viewing.

Verlon Gene Bosse
Verlon Gene Bosse, of Emporia,
Kansas, died on December 2, 2015, at
Providence Medical Center, Newberg,
Oregon, at the age of 73.
Verlon Gene Bosse, the son of Verlon
and Freda Bosse, was born on October
15, 1942 in Westmoreland, Kansas. He
graduated from Havensville high school
in 1960 in a class of 8 students. In 1965
he was drafted and sent to Vietnam.
He spent 9 months 10 days building
air strips; he traveled to Vietnam and went on leave in
Okinawa. He returned to the states in 1966, he met and
married Phyllis May, he then shortly after adopted Teresa
Blankenship born February 1966. He went on to have three
more children, a daughter that died in birth; a daughter,
Sandra (Sandy) Bosse born November 1968; and a son,
Dallas Bosse born March 1972. Gene and Phyllis divorced in
1973. He married Dee in 1974, divorcing in 1979. Gene later
married Dorothy Sappington in 1982, divorcing in 2010.
Gene lived at Country Park Mobile Home Park from
1969-2015. He owned and operated the court, which he
purchased from his parents in 1986, selling the park in 2011.
He owned a parts, service and transportation business in
Emporia on Graham Street from 1988-1996, when he closed
the business. He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran
Church, The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars
(VFW), Shriners, and NRA.
Gene is survived by his daughters, Teresa & Larry
Gilmore of Ottawa; Sandy & Javier Perez of Dayton, OR;
his son, Dallas & Amy Bosse
