Mya Louise Gray
Benjamin and Sarah Gray of Emporia are the parents
of a daughter, Mya Louise Gray, born Jan. 23, 2016,
at Newman Regional Health. Mya has three sisters —
Makayla, Mackenzie and Makenna — and a brother,
Micah.
Grand parents are Ruth Green of Elmdale and the
late Gerald Green, Nancy Jean of Dresden, Maine, and
Jerry and DeVelle Gray of Lawrence. Great-grandparents
are Helen Johnson of Cottonwood Falls, Joyce Gray of
Augusta and Marilyn Noble of Lawrence, Maine.

The registration deadline for Big Brothers Big Sisters
of the Flint Hills’ Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser is Friday.
The event has a cowboy theme this year. ‘Bull’ for Kids’
Sake will begin at 6 p.m. March 19 at Flinthills Lanes.

Habitat for Humanity applications
Those who would like to apply for a Habitat for Humanity home are encouraged to submit an application.
The next home will be started in the spring; applications
will be accepted until March 10.
Pick up the forms and eligibility requirements from
8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at Modern Air,
106 Commercial St. Previous applicants should make
sure their information is still on file.
‘Soundmakers’ deadline approaches
Original designs for “soundmakers” made from found
objects or secondhand materials are due Friday, March
4. Designs may be mailed, along with the required
entry form, to 2802 Monterey Drive or emailed to [email protected].
The accepted soundmaker designs will be constructed
by May 15 and exhibited in downtown Emporia June 2-13
as part of the Secondhand Sounds project sponsored by
Emporia Celebrates the Flint Hills.
More information including requirements, timeline,
and entry form may be requested by calling 342-8806 or
emailing the address above.
Scholarship fundraiser
Sunday, a soup and chili lunch funded by a Thrivent
Action Team will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. by local volunteers. Donations to the scholarship fund will be
accepted during the meal which will support the Chase
County Junior/Senior High School Veterans Memorial
Scholarship.
In addition, other volunteers will be contacting Chase
County residents and businesses for support. Checks may
be made payable to: CCJSHS Veterans Memorial Scholarship and mailed to Chase County USD 284, PO Box 569,
Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
Scholarship recipients will be awarded via an essay
contest: “How has the sacrifice of America’s veterans benefited me and how can I carry on that tradition?”
Strong City park
Chase County residents are rebuilding the park in
Strong City through a community effort. Only $20,000
is left for the $150,000 campaign. To make a donation or
invest in a sponsorship, contact organizers at mannk@

Facebook or stop by the Strong City depot.
Breakfast in Admire
The Admire Community Center will have their
monthly pancake breakfast from 7 to 9:30 a.m. Feb. 27
at the Admire Community Center. Menu items include
pancakes, biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes, sausage,
juice and coffee. A free-will donation will be accepted.
Proceeds go toward maintaining the community center.
The North Lyon County Museum will be open during
breakfast.
‘Called to Walls’
Rylie Nicole Palmer
A fundraiser will be held Monday at the Emporia Arts
Center, 815 Commercial St. The new documentary by
Nicholas Ward and Amber Hansen, “Called to Walls,” will
be screened between 6 and 9 p.m. in the theater, while
area businesses provide refreshments. Proceeds will help
fund a participatory mural painted in Emporia by famed
muralist Dave Loewenstein.
Tickets are $20 and available at Mulready’s Pub, 717
Commercial St.; Radius Brewing Co., 610 Merchant St.;
