Trocaire
We work with some of the world’s poorest people, supporting communities and
delivering long-term change to people’s lives.
In Ireland, we raise awareness about the causes of poverty through our outreach
programmes in the education sector, through parish networks, and through our
public campaigns and advocacy work.
Trócaire was set up in 1973 by the Bishops of Ireland to express the concern of
the Irish Catholic Church for the suffering of the world’s poorest people.
At that time, the Bishops issued a Pastoral Letter on development, informed by
the core principles of Catholic Social Teaching.
Trócaire works in partnership with communities in the developing world to support their efforts to improve their lives, meet their basic needs and ensure their
human dignity.
We believe that real change can only come about by giving people the tools and
skills necessary to change their own lives. Our support is offered regardless of
race, gender, religion or politics.
And we offer long-term support to our partners and beneficiaries around the
world, maintaining relationships over a number of years.
Trócaire work across a number of programme areas in over 20 countries: Malawi and more.
