El Qasba, symbol of the city |
Overlooking the city and built onto the |
rock, El Qasba is an important part |
of El Kef’ s history. The entire military |
complex, spread over an area of more |
than 6000m2 is essentially composed |
of two independent fortresses, the little |
fort and the large fort. Looking like a |
crown, it gives El Kef the appearance of |
a fortified city and deeply characterizes |
its urban and architectural landscape. |
True emblem of the city, it was the |
inviolable refuge and decisive key |
to many conflicts that the country |
experienced. Its views over the whole |
region are definitely worth a visit! |

St. Peter’ s Basilica, rare and precious One of the few early Christian basilica in the world, St. Peter’ s Basilica is relatively well preserved despite its age. Nowadays, it is known under the name of Dar el-Kous( the arch house), because of its remarkable apse. True testimony to the history of El Kef, it even appears that the basilica has replaced the Capitol of the ancient Sicca.

It aims at highlighting the young people of the region who succeeded in life without higher education. The city also organises every year in July the Bou Makhlouf Festival and the Saliha Festival, in tribute to the native pop singer. There is also the Siccajazz Festival, which was very successful during the last two editions and that comes back for a 3rd edition, from 15 to 19 March, to show another side of the city. I |
