Slimen Elkamel, art as a social diagnostic
He is one of the major actors of the Tunisian contemporary art scene and he shows his work in Dubai, London and Paris. Slimen Elkamel’ s art opens a dialogue with the public to try to " understand but also transform our perspectives on everydayness ". Focus on this young talent who proudly bears the colours of Tunisia...
Painter and visual artist, Slimen Elkamel finds inspiration in mass media images that he shapes with his skilled hands into new forms, making them resonate with each other in order to open up a new path halfway between aesthetics and philosophical reflection. It should be noted that the artist has been immersed in the magic of images and words since his childhood, deeply marked by books and popular stories that his aunts used to tell. After completing literary studies, the young man enters the Fine Arts Institute in Tunis and graduated with a master in painting and a master in visual arts. Slimen Elkamel’ s artworks prove that art and literature are closely linked. If books open up the imagination, the visual artist’ s works talk to those who know how to listen. Public’ s emotions and sensations are addressed. The young artist currently works at the creation of an art centre in Sidi Bouzid, his hometown, and also prepares a personal exhibition in Paris as well as participations in large international fairs such as the Cape Town Art Fair and the Art Dubai next February and March.
