Du 26 avril au 14 août 2017 Le Centre Pompidou accueille la première grande rétrospective française dédiée à Walker Evans, l’ un des photographes américains les plus importants du XXème siècle. De ses premiers clichés datant de la fin des années 20 jusqu’ aux polaroïds des années 70, l’ exposition présente 300 tirages vintage qui retracent la carrière de l’ artiste. Typographie d’ enseigne, agencement d’ étalage ou encore devanture de petit commerce sont autant de détails du quotidien et de la banalité urbaine qui définissent l’ art de Walker Evans considérablement marqué par sa fascination pour la culture vernaculaire. 26 April- 14 August 2017 Pompidou Centre hosts the first major French retrospective dedicated to Walker Evans, one of the most important American photographers of the 20th century. The exhibition features 300 vintage prints that retrace the artist ' s career, from his first photographs of the late 1920’ s to Polaroids of the 70s. Typography sign, store display and layout, or even small storefronts are all details of the everyday life and urban banality that define Walker Evans’ art, dramatically marked by his fascination with vernacular culture.
