Tunisia is loaded with talent and the brand VAKAY is the perfect example. Created in November 2012 by Adam Jabeur and Soulaiman Ghorbel, VAKAY is a hit with sunglasses lovers and is exported beyond Tunisian borders. T he wood framed glasses make VAKAY unique, but also the fact that it is totally made by hand and 100% Tunisian. If the brand, whose name means “And the tree“ in Vietnamese, relies on the well-known and approved concept of using wood, it is the first to offer and manufacture this kind of glasses in Tunisia and more widely in the Arab world. Unlike major industrial brands, VAKAY offers a new experience that combines comfort and aesthetics, inspired by its Mediterranean roots. Each collection has its own character, which comes from a unique combination of shapes, curves, colours but also materials. African woods such as wenge, walnut, bubinga, padouk and oak are selected for their noble look, their strength and their low ecological impact, then are worked by hand and rendered sublime by an elegant design. Count approximately 70 hours to manufacture one pair of sunglasses ! In parallel with the permanent collections, VAKAY sometimes presents special editions that tell, each in their own way, parts of Tunisia’s history. Therefore, on the occasion of the Save Mos Espa initiative to save the site that houses one of the Star Wars sets, the brand launched the VAKAY Save Mos Espa sunglasses, a special edition whose aesthetics was mainly inspired by mosaics and mouldings typical of southern Tunisia.
