Entirely renovated and refurnished, the new site combines all services provided by the new Institute as well as a cultural centre. An architectural and educative success. I 2 : Représentation théâtrale dans le patio extérieur  I Theatrical performance in the outdoor patio I ‫عرض مسرحي في الفناء‬ ‫الخارجي‬ I naugurated in May 2015, the new French Institute is a new cultural centre, functional and modern, that can accommodate many events in a unique history-laden place, the Carnot High School. It includes several spaces such as a language centre, a media library, an auditorium as well as an exhibition hall for conferences, shows and film projections. In a spirit of partnership between Tunisia and France, the French Institute is one of the main actors that allow this cooperation policy. It initiates and supports numerous cultural actions in the fields of education or science. The building, entirely redesigned by architect Richter in partnership with architect Karim Jeddi-Gonzales, dates from 1882. Inaugurated under the name of Collège Saint-Charles, the building was initially built by architect Étienne-Marius Arnoux, based on the model of the late 19th century French schools. It is only in 1894 that it is named Sadi Carnot High School, to honour the memory of the French President who was assassinated. Today, the associations of former students in Tunis and Paris contribute to preserve and pass on the memory of the place and organize meetings on a regular basis. Jellal Ben Abdallah, Gilbert Naccache, Philippe Séguin, Serge Moati or Gisèle Halimi are, for example, former students of Carnot High School. A true living place that allows to create bridges and cultural exchanges between France and Tunisia.
