CUISINE
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE FOOD
Savor Saint Louis Food Tours is taking its
tastings on the road.
At the start of its third season, the familyowned company is expanding its original
Central West End walking food tour offerings
to include restaurants in the Delmar Loop
in University City as an alternate choice of
walking tour.
Past outings have included culinary delights
and surprises like a dish offered at a historic
hotel, handcrafted treats from a local
chocolatier, award-winning thin crust pizza,
said to be a favorite of President Barack
Obama, a dish from a Welsh pub, or fresh
vegetables in a greenhouse café.
Chief tasting officers, Susan Smith, and her
daughter, Jennifer (Smith) Schmid, decided to
start the business after experiencing similar
tours in other cities. Susan’s son, Steve
Smith, serves as the chief tasting consultant.
The Smith family has owned and operated
The Royale Food & Spirits on South
Kingshighway for the last 10 years. They
are passionate about food, family and St.
Louis, and Savor Saint Louis offers a blend
of all three. In addition to delicious tastings,
the walking tours give participants the
opportunity to learn from their guides a
little about the historical, architectural and
cultural backgrounds of the neighborhoods.
The new tour in The Delmar Loop will offer
six stops. The Central West end tour includes
five. Tours are available every Friday and
Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Suitable for all
ages, prices range from $15 for children age 7
and under to $30 for kids 8 to 12 and $48 for
adults. Private tours are available. Call (314)
669-1326 or visit savorsaintlouis.com.
