Eight Fun Spring Cleaning Tips
SPRING IS ALWAYS A GREAT TIME TO DECLUTTER AND DONATE . MERS GOODWILL IS ENCOURAGING EVERYONE TO FOLLOW THESE FUN , SIMPLE TRICKS TO HELP YOUR SPRING CLEANING GET UNDERWAY .

1 . Only holding on to things for sentimental reasons ? Instead of keeping the items , take an artistic photograph of them , frame it and display it in your home . Then take the items to Goodwill to help you let go and move on . 2 . Turn all hanging clothes backward . Reverse an item to the correct direction once it is worn . After six months , donate any pieces of clothing that are still backward ; if you haven ’ t worn it by then , you probably never will . 3 . Practice the “ One-In-One-Out " rule when buying things like clothes and shoes . Donate the used item to Goodwill , then stick around and shop for a new item . 4 . Create a fun contest for the family : Challenge everyone to find 10 items to put away , and 10 items to donate to Goodwill . Or host a spring cleaning party . Invite friends over to swap unwanted items and donate any extras to Goodwill . 5 . Organize your bookshelf and gather together books or movies you haven ’ t touched in months , and the ones that you are planning to reread or rewatch . 6 . Don ’ t keep a cookbook for only a few recipes . Write down or snap a photo of the ones you want to keep , and then donate the book .
7 . Go through your jewelry and dispose of the broken or unwanted costume jewelry , and make plans to donate what you don ’ t wear . 8 . Buy furniture with storage space . Pieces of furniture that have drawers or compartments in which to tuck things away is a good choice . They add a ton of extra storage space , while reducing visual clutter . Bonus Tip : Store out-of-season clothes and shoes in a suitcase for extra closet space .
