Diversity In Beauty
H
air care and cosmetics brands are starting to drive the
conversation of diversity in recent campaigns. We are
seeing more promotions that feature a strong message
to embrace all types of beauty. There is still a long way
to go, but each milestone should be celebrated. Here
are two brands that are getting extra attention this spring.
Dealing With Hair Loss
NIOXIN, the No. 1 globally selling salon brand for thicker, fuller-looking
hair, recently announced actress, singer and author Naya Rivera as the
brand’s new celebrity ambassador. Together, NIOXIN and Rivera will
help give a voice to the 75 percent of Americans who are worried about
losing their hair, and the 46 percent who think there is nothing they can
do to prevent hair from thinning. As a new mom herself, Rivera knows
firsthand about the struggles of postpartum hair loss, and the effect it
can have on a woman - both physically and emotionally.
Rivera’s confidence and honesty inspires women around the world to
embrace their struggles and view them as an opportunity to take action
by simply talking with family and friends or consulting with a stylist.
Loving Your Natural Beauty
Pantene has helped to define beautiful hair for 40 years through
powerful images of strong, healthy hair. However, while diversity
and inclusion continue to improve in society, there is still a level of
inequality in how African-American hair is represented in popular
culture and in mainstream hair care advertising. As part of the next
chapter of its “Strong Is Beautiful” story, Pantene launched a new ad
campaign featuring Pantene brand ambassador Jillian Hervey alongside
African-American women of all ages, with a broad representation of
hair textures and styles.
“Learning to embrace my natural curls has been a hard process for
me, and I know that many other African-American women relate,”
Hervey said.
Pantene Gold Series is the brand’s first hair care collection co-
created with a team of African-American Ph.D.s, scientists, stylists and
dermatologists.
