F
ormer Ameren CEO Thomas R. Voss is excited about the
newest phase of his life.
Tom began his career at Union Electric (now Ameren) after
graduating with an engineering degree from what is now Missouri
University of Science and Technology. He worked his way to the top
before retiring in July 2014 after 45 years with the company. Tom
is still involved in the utilities industry as chairman of the board and
consultant for San Francisco-based, Smart Wires.
He continues his civic work and serves on the board of the Muny and
Dance St. Louis, is chairman of the board of Grand Center, Inc., and
vice chairman of the board of trustees at his alma mater.
Both Tom and Carol enjoy their philanthropic work to help make
St. Louis a better place for everyone. “We do things together. If you see
either one of us, you will almost always see the other one. We’ve been
married for 46 years, and have three children and four grandchildren,
but we were best friends before we got married, and I think that’s what
it takes. We’ve just enjoyed being with each other,” Tom said. “Carol
flies free with me whenever I travel because I have earned ‘companion
pass’ status with one of the airlines. She is always there with me.”
Tom and Carol live next door to their daughter and enjoy seeing
their grandchildren every day. They also love to spend time in Florida
where they have a home by the beach.
