She first told us her “take” on fashion and comfort before sharing the story of her rise to fame, along with her philosophy on healthy eating, men, and life’s purpose (see our Women Who Inspire section for the full story). VB: What’s your fashion style? Chaka: Abstract. No white or pastels. Strong colors. Me. VB: What’s your favorite pair of heels? Chaka: I don’t wear heels. As short as I am (5-foot, or maybe 5-foot, 1-inch on a good day – she says with a laugh), I like flatter, comfortable shoes. 16 Photo courtesy of Chaka Khan VB: What is your beauty regime? Chaka: I will do makeup for performances, but I keep it very simple. VB: What’s your favorite nail polish and color? Chaka: I usually don’t wear any. When I was young I got into the habit of wearing no makeup – keeping it natural – and that’s what I still like to do. I try different styles with my hair, but a lot of times I like to just spritz it and keep it natural, too. I like a lot of hair. VB: Must-have for your wardrobe? Chaka: A jacket and a big bag. Designer Antoine Gillespie, who is VB: Favorite fragr ance? Chaka: Fracas. I love it. I like the smell of sandalwood. from Chicago and a former professional basketball player living in Switzerland, designed a large custom Chaka bag that I love. Check out his website - reignbro.com. VB: What is your go-to casual outfit? Chaka: Nice fitting jeans and an oversized men’s shirt. GAZELLE STL
