Pearling
Ceremony

T
he Sophia Project Inc. held its fifth annual Pearling Ceremony
to recognize middle school and high school girls who have
shown growth and improvement in the program throughout
the school year. The reception and ceremony culminated with each
young lady being presented with a set of pearls as a symbol of growth
into womanhood. The ceremony was held in the main atrium at the
Missouri History Museum. Brittany Packnett, executive director of
Teach for America–St. Louis, gave the keynote address.
Founded by director and St. Louis native Rev. Dawn R. Price, The
Sophia Project’s mission is to help young women develop into sociallyengaged, globally-conscious and community-focused young leaders.
The nonprofit partners with St. Louis area middle schools and high
schools, as well as local community members in facilitating in-school
sessions and workshops that promote self-efficacy. To learn more about
