ance music, beat boxing and pop will all make it to
the stage of the Fabulous Fox Theatre following the
program at the upcoming Martin L. Mathews Awards
Program and Benefit Concert on Aug. 18.
Hosted by comedian Darius Bradford, the Soul Funk
Fest portion of the evening includes performances by Cameo, Doug E.
Fresh and Love Jones The Band.

Darius Bradford is a native of University City, who delivers his own
brand of humor as a stand-up comedian and as a writer for others like
Cedric the Entertainer. He has appeared on (and written for) BET’s
“The Bad Boys of Comedy,” “Comicview” and most recently, “1st
Amendment Stand Up,” among others, and has appeared on stage at
many local venues.

Cameo calls for pretty ladies around the world, or so it says in the
band’s top hit “Word Up!” released in 1986. But Cameo has been funky
for much longer than that. The group made its debut with the 1977
album “Cardiac Arrest,” before becoming known for its irresistible style
of dance music. Other chart-making hits include “We’re Going Out
Tonight,” “Rigormortis,” “Candy” “Single Life” and “Shake Your Pants.”
Almost every single has been in the R&B charts.
