This year ’ s Cedric the Entertainer gala will feature pop icon Sheila E ., whose No . 1 hit , “ The Glamorous Life ,” was penned by Prince . She ’ ll be headlining An Evening with Cedric the Entertainer and Friends at the Peabody Opera House on Saturday , Oct . 21 , to benefit the Rosetta Boyce Kyles Women ’ s Pavilion at SSM Health St . Mary ’ s Hospital . Sheila E . also teamed up with Prince for “ A Love Bizarre ,” among other collaborations . Late last year , she released the memoir , “ The Beat of My Own Drum : A Memoir .” Cedric the Entertainer and his sister , Sharita Kyles-Wilson , are co-hosting the event , which was created in memory of their mother , who lost her battle with cancer in 2015 . Now you see it … the highly anticipated , otherworldly Great American Eclipse is just weeks away , and St . Louisans expect to be front and center . The path of the Aug . 21 total solar eclipse will cut across much of Missouri , including large expanses throughout the St . Louis region . The St . Louis Eclipse 2017 Task Force estimates that 1.6 million area residents live in the direct path of totality ( when the moon completely covers the sun ), with areas just to the south of St . Louis blanketed for as much as two minutes , 40 seconds of darkness . In addition , prepare to experience a few other out-of-this-world sights and sensations , including a significant drop in temperature , eerie shadows and stillness , and possibly , unusual behavior in pets . The event is St . Louis ’ first total solar eclipse since 1442 ; the first in the continental United States in 38 years . A new summer festival is underway in the Grand Center Arts District . The Strauss Park Alive Festival , launched by Grand Center Inc . in early July , offers 60 days of free cultural and arts programming for the St . Louis community . Performances and events on tap this month include sand sculptures , tunes and trucks ( Tuesday , Aug . 8 ); a wellness fair ( Thursday , Aug . 17 ); an eclipse party ( Monday , Aug . 21 ); and yoga on Thursday evenings .
