Her works are a critical eye that decodes Tunisian social signs through art. A visual artist above all else, Aicha Filali exercises utilitarian art in a contemporary movement. Ensuing artistic studies at the University of Tunis, she is currently not only a Doctor of Aesthetics and Art Sciences, a professor at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Tunis but also heads Live Arts Center of Rades. She has regularly been exhibiting since 1984 and has also published several books on some of her artistic experiences: Mémoire de terre, Fragments odorants (CREDIF award for literary creation), elkolhom blayeks and Propos Tunis. She is always on the lookout for new artistic and human creations and new ways of expression. The role of the artist, according to her, is no longer aesthetic but mostly a means to inquire about society, which is best illustrated through her creations and installations. Aicha Filali curiously explores from different angles her food for thought, the Tunisian society and its daily life, in order to understand and to dissect what it can deliver. As shown in her collection "the portraits en dessous" (2003) or "télé-surréalités" (2008), exhibited at Ammar Farhat Gallery. She uses several creative techniques, such as printing, on various supports or embroidery, and claims the kitsh to be a means of playful expression. Aicha Filali, a talented artist who constantly suggests a pertinent and mischievous look at the Tunisian society. I 190 191
