LORRAINE BELLONI How I paint I paint with watercolour on a non-absorbent paper called Yupo. I admit it’s challenging, but I just love the way the paint has to evaporate by various means to work it’s magic. It is impossible to treat this material like normal watercolour paper. Without doubt it can have a mind of it’s own, hence my growing relationship with this surface has taken time and is ongoing. Inspiration is always from reality, although the finished works are often of a more lyrical, abstract nature. I like to combine fun, texture, illusion and atmosphere in my work and find inspiration everywhere. The colours tend to be vibrant and with depth, due to pure pigment being left on the surface of the paper. I work with large 37ml tubes of watercolour paint, only available in the U.S. at present. The process takes a lot of paint. “ Lorraine Belloni is based in Chiswick, West London.
