Tesla Vs Edison

THE WAR OF CURRENTS

Tesla Vs Edison

For the most of us, the name“ Thomas Alva Edison” rings a bell as a well-known inventor – the inventor of the filament lamp or simply the electric light bulb, while“ Nikola Tesla” remains to be a name unheard. However, Nikola Tesla is considered to be the greatest inventor of all time for his enormous contribution to the development of alternating current( AC) electrical systems and a whole lot more.

WHO IS NIKOLA TESLA? Nikola Tesla was born on 10th July 1856 in Croatia and migrated to the US in 1884. He worked together with the second party which took part in this war – Thomas Alva Edison. Tesla sold several of his patent rights to George Westinghouse, including those related to his alternating current machinery. Among his many inventions, the“ Tesla Coil”( 1891) is the most popular of all and is still being used in radio technology.

WHO IS THOMAS ALVA EDISON? Thomas Alva Edison was born on 11th February 1847 in Ohio( United States of America). His famous laboratory in Menlo Park was where he invented the telegraph, phonograph and the well-known incandescent electric light bulb. He is also known to be the inventor of the Kinetograph( a camera for motion pictures) and alkaline storage batteries.
When Tesla migrated to the US in 1884, he was hired by Edison to make improvements in Edison’ s inventions. However, several months later, the two of them parted ways and Tesla continued to work alone ever since. In 1885, Tesla received funding for the Tesla Electric Light Company. The main task assigned to him by his investors was to develop an improved arc lighting system. Tesla successfully completed this task, but he was no longer a part of this venture. He was thrown out of his company. Again in 1887, he was lucky enough to receive funding to start a new company( Tesla Electric Company) by a team of investors who had a keen interest on developing an AC electrical system. This genius managed to file several patents for AC( Alternating Current) based inventions by the end of the same year and that was when he caught the attention of George Westinghouse, an American Engineer and businessman.
