Lotus Tower
“The Symbolic
Landmark of Sri
Lanka”
Landmark structures such as the
Statue of Liberty in the United
States, Big Ben in England, the
Eiffel Tower in France, the CN
Tower in Canada, the Merlion in Singapore, etc. are
very popular as unique symbols in many developed
countries. The Lotus Tower has now joined this list rising
up as an iconic landmark in Colombo, the capital
of Sri Lanka.
This is the tallest completed tower in South Asia,
which is the 11th tallest in Asia and the 19th tallest in
the world. Including the antenna mast, the total height
of the tower is 356 meters. It is a multi-functional tower
with US$ 104 million spent for the construction; 80
percent of the cost has been born by Chin Exim Bank.
Tourism and antenna leasing are the main revenue
sources of this massive project. Apart from that,
there are some other features such as a telecommunication
museum, a revolving restaurant, a luxury hotel,
an auditorium, a conference hall, a ballroom and an
observation deck.
