The main advantage of OLEDs is that they make the displays much thinner to a range of 0.2mm-0.3mm (or 1/8000 inches). LCDs are 10 times thicker than this. OLEDs are also much brighter and more flexible. Since they are brighter, they don’t need a backlight. Thus, the power consumption is less in OLEDs. Therefore, using them in mobile devices where batteries are used, will give more battery life. When fast moving pictures are displayed, OLEDs respond up to 200 times faster. They can produce more realistic colours through a much bigger viewing angle, unlike in LCDs, where colours are darker and tend to disappear when observed from various angles. OLEDs are already used in many types of companies such as Samsung, Google, Apple, Sony, PANASONIC, Lenovo, HP, Fujifilm and Toshiba to produce mobile phones, tablets, computer monitors, TVs, cameras, laptops, car radios, lamps, etc. But OLEDs also have drawbacks. One of the major drawbacks is Experts are working on figuring out solutions for these problems of OLEDs. With the technology they have, solutions will be found in the near future and it is just a matter of time for OLEDs to start a new era in electronic displays. that they do not exist for a long time. The degradation of the organic molecules tends to wear out around four times faster than conventional LCD or LED display. Other than that, the organic molecules in OLEDs are very sensitive to water. That can be a major problem specially in manufacturing products like mobile phones. “ ” References 1. What is OLED and How Does it Work?
