Corrections Officers (l) Matt Rafter
and Inmate Sports Specialist (r)
Joey DeFoney speak to students
about the challenges and rewards of
working in the prison system.
Helping to convert a troubled person
into a productive citizen where
he/she can return to the mainstream
gives
them
a
sense
of
accomplishment
and
an
understanding that they are truly
making a difference.
Mrs. Julie Ream is an art
conservationist
who
captivated
students with her discussion of the
work she has done for art museums
and private art investors. Where Mrs.
Ream is experienced in restoring
ceramic, papers, and various other
mediums, her specialty is in restoring
old books and documents. She is
currently working on restoring an
ancient Qu’ran, which was a
fascinating find.
Ms. Susan Mayer is a food industry and
academic consultant with 30 years of
experience. Having worked with major
food companies, including Campbell
Soup Company, Best Foods/CPC and
HJ Heinz, she was instrumental in
portraying to our students the
importance of food safety and quality.
The students, eager to delve into the
subject with both hands, peppered Ms.
Mayer with questions on this topic until
the bell rang. Ms. Mayer also works
with local colleges to educate students
on food science and food industry
careers.
