In just his second year serving as Head Coach for Gateway wrestling, Jim Rutter( left) was selected as District 29 Wrestling Coach of the Year. Under his guidance, the wrestling team broke the school record for wins in one season as well as making it to the state playoffs for the first time in 31 years. Mr. Rutter is quick to credit his entire coaching staff: Dave Brown, Bobby Bastien, Jon Soucek and John Eddis who do so much for the team.
He Won The Bet? In addition to being a terrific teacher and a genuinely nice guy, Mr. Cunning, history teacher, is a really, really good sport! Here is the reason why: In a new spin on winning and losing, Gateway faculty, staff, and students found a way to creatively raise money for the Response-‐ a-‐ Bull animal shelter and the Gateway German Club. Votes were cast( with spare change) for the teacher / administrator whom most people would like to see wear a German Lederhosen outfit, as modeled by winner, Mr. Shawn Cunning. There is some speculation that a certain principal who was originally winning( and shall remain nameless) may have … um … tipped the scales in Mr. Cunnings favor to keep from having to wear the Lederhosen outfit himself! Other participants in this contest were teachers Mr. Ryan, Ms. Robertson, Mr. Covely, Mr. James, and Mr. Dericks; and administrators Mr. DiCicco and Mr. Hindman. Thanks for being such a good sport about it all, Mr. Cunning!
