Gateway Sponsor’ s Latin State Convention
Over 100 dedicated members of the Gateway Regional High School Latin Club, not to mention over 30 Latin Club alumni and untold numbers of parents hosted the 2013 NJJCL( New Jersey Junior Classical League) State Convention in April. With close to 500 people in attendance, this event was truly a massive group effort, and the Gators came through with their usual superlative efforts. Amanda O’ Neill of Westville, who served as New Jersey Junior Classical League State President 2012-‐13, chaired the event.
The Gateway chapter received first place as the most active Latin Club in NJ. The Club also received first place in the Spirit Competition under spirit leaders Maeve Armstrong, Becca Bielat, and McGlynn Moran. The Club Scrapbook produced by Historians Isabella Armento and Olivia Lombardo received the second place award. Club sponsor and Latin teacher Mrs. Penny Cipolone, who will be enjoying a well-‐ deserved retirement at the end of this school year, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her 42 years of service to the NJJCL, and this year the Lifetime“ Most Spirited School” Award was renamed the“ Penny Cipolone Award for the Most Spirited School”.
