The engagement of the population regarding food, and the story behind it, is further evolving. People care about the quality of food and start to see the bigger picture; they understand that food can change the perspective of the world. Famous chefs from all over the world start to debate the impact of food on climate change, pollution and the shortage of our resources. Growing awareness comes into existence that the overpopulation is overburdening the earth and will result into serious food shortage in the future. This curiosity results into people wanting to know what they are eating, where it comes from and how it affects the earth; they want to feel connected with what they are eating. We will discuss the increasing demand for pure, local and healthy food. Concepts as sustainability and super foods are leading in our rapidly changing environment. In my opinion there is not always one set definition and the purpose of this article is to provide you with some ideas.

Unfortunately the world’s population is facing a severe increase in the level of obesity. Growing awareness exists that a change in dietary is necessary. Nowadays a world without superfoods seems hard to imagine, have a look around; avocado, sweet potato, granola and nalu bowls are everywhere. While being in Peru I was stunned, I saw the biggest avocado’s I have ever seen; it was amazing! You might recognize some of the popular super foods from Peru yourselves. I am referring to: Quinoa, Kiwicha, Maca, Camu Camu, Lucuma, Purple corn, Yacon, Cacao and sweet potato. These interesting products are richly filled with minerals and vitamins. In addition quinoa for example lowers our cholesterol level. Whereas Kiwicha provides a boost in our energy level and metabolism. The super fruit Camu Camu is full of antioxidants, which makes it a very interesting for fighting and preventing heavy deceases such as cancer! Looking for an anit-ageing detox? Then Lucuma is the perfect super food consisting of a wide range of calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium. Last but not least Maca: Maca root is considered as on of the healthiest natural ingredients in the entire world! Maca helps to restore hormone balances for women as well as for men. It enhances testosterone production leading to a great libido, higher energy level, strength and athletic ability. When suffering of a migraine or painful headaches Maca could be your perfect wonder cure as well. In other words; do not forget to take Maca powder with you before leaving Peru!

It seems safe to conclude that these Peruvian super foods are full of minerals and vitamins, which boost our energy levels and enhances our immune system.

Going into depth many people make the mistake by thinking that eating clean and healthy refers to being vegetarian, eating raw products and fewer calories, however it is something completely different in my opinion. Eating clean is a mindset, the following quote made a real difference in my own lifestyle: “It is all about being mindful of the food’s pathway between its’ origin and your plate”. One afternoon we had lunch in one of the best restaurans in the world called the Amaz restaurant in Lima and I realized this pathway could refer to another insight of super foods. Not necessarily the tangible products but the philosophy behind it. Chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino describes himself as a chef as well as a researcher of the Amazon. He stressed the importance of respecting the amazon and the world their resources. We should show the beauty of the nature the way it was supposed to without editing. He keeps on going to the jungle and exploring what nature has to offer is. This interesting philosophy refers to living in harmony with the nature without excursing their pure, beautiful resources.

In other words we are able to find answers to our problems in Mother Nature.
