Celebrated nationally, Heroes’ Day
commemorates the Battle of Surabaya in
1945 between pro-independence
Indonesian soldiers and Dutch and British
troops. Every year, the streets of Surabaya
host a colourful parade and a colossal
battle re-enactment.

The town of Taliwang in West Sumbawa, West
Nusa Tenggara, will be a sight to behold during its
namesake festival. A parade of water buffaloes
dressed to the nines will compete in a pageant,
followed by the highly competitive Barapan Kebo,
or water buffalo race, as well as paragliding events
and Sumbawan poetry recitals.

Penti Ceremony at Wae Rebo Village, Flores, November 16
A major ceremony in the Manggarai
district, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, Penti
is a thanksgiving celebration for the year’s
harvest and the upcoming agricultural
year. At Wae Rebo, the ceremony lasts all
day and night, and is filled with a series of
ancient rituals at sacred sites, chants,
dances and feasts.

di Kabupaten Manggarai, Flores, Nusa
Tenggara Timur, Penti adalah upacara
syukuran atas keberhasilan panen dan
dimulainya bercocok tanam. Di Wae
Rebo, upacara ini berlangsung siang dan
malam, dan diisi beragam ritual di
tempat-tempat yang dianggap suci,
tari-tarian dan jamuan.
The annual Bogor Art Festival returns for its
sixth edition at the Graha Widya Wisuda building,
Kampus IPB Dramaga. The month-long festival
boasts a rich medley of Sundanese cultural displays,
traditional costumes including Bogor’s own batik
motifs, angklung concerts, parades and a small
business expo.
