A plaque at 59 Old Compton Street marks the 2i’s Coffee Bar where many of the UK’s pop and rock’n’roll stars of the 1950s and 60s first performed. Music makes Soho tick: it fills pubs and clubs, can be found in specialist music shops such as Harold Moore’s (for classical and jazz) and Sister Ray or Beat Control (for house, dubstep and other dance), and there’s live music too. Jazz, for example, can be enjoyed at the Jazz Club (Pizza Express, 10 Dean St) or at legendary Ronnie Scott’s (47 Frith St), which opened in 1959, at about the same time as the UK’s first disco on nearby Poland Street.
