Travel | Tana Toraja
A woman making a traditional ikat weaving.
5 Senses – Sight
IKAT
The art of Sekomandi ikat weaving
was once one of the highest talents to
which a Torajan woman could aspire.
At Todi Weaving Shop in Rantepao,
you can see how these works of art are
still created from basics using natural
fibre and dyes made from roots, barks
and leaves. A fine piece of Sekomandi
might take four months to complete
and fetch a price of around US$350.
Seni tenun ikat Sekomandi
dahulu merupakan salah satu
keterampilan idaman wanita Toraja.
Di Toko Tenun Todi di Rantepao,
Anda bisa melihat bagaimana karya
seni ini masih dibuat menggunakan
serat alami dan pewarna dari akar,
kulit kayu dan daun. Pembuatan
selembar kain Sekomandi bisa
memakan waktu empat bulan
dan harganya mencapai Rp5 juta.
