Dear valued Garuda Indonesia customers,
“Change will not come if we wait
for some other person or some other
time. We are the ones we’ve been
waiting for. We are the change that
we seek,” such were the words of
the 44 th president of the United
States of America Barack Obama.
Indeed, change doesn’t just happen.
Instead, it is a result of serious efforts
and hard work. A change is no easy
task, and while it can be exciting, it
can also be challenging. There is no
denying that some of the best things
happen once a change has taken
place: the kind of change that is
well planned, well-structured, and
is progressive in nature; the kind
that allows us to grow, evolve, and
can be maintained. This applies to
us as individuals, as well as to
communities and even companies.
As such, it is important for the new
Garuda Indonesia-Sriwijaya Group to
embrace a working culture through
the empowerment of its human
resources, refined working
processes, and technology.
It is crucial that each individual is
motivated to improve their skills
and performance based on three
key values: faith, fire, and focus.
Garuda Indonesia, as a company,
has also undergone and worked
towards achieving several changes
throughout the past semester, in the
form of the #GIAcoustic live music
performance held on board the
aircraft, an innovative in-flight meal
menu under The New Signature
Dish of Indonesia programme, as
well as other service innovations.

But even so, these changes do not
simply dismiss what came before
them and replace the old with the new.
Beyond that, these changes recharged
our spirits and motivated us to exceed
in competing in the industry, all the
while ensuring our processes are
effective and responsible. In line
with our desire to evolve, there is
also a desire to become better
than others in the industry.
In keeping with the aforementioned
statement, change doesn’t just happen
it has to start from ourselves. Achieving
change doesn’t require much, for it is
possible if we are willing to identify
and understand our own shortcomings,
if we are willing to go beyond our
comfort zone, and if we are not afraid
to vocalise our thoughts. Once the
wheels of change start turning,
we will notice a transformation in
ourselves, one in which we emerge
unique and ahead of the game.
To change is to have courage. While
there will be moments of doubt, as
such is the nature of humanity, we
will emerge differently if we use those
doubts as a building block for our values.
It will strengthen us in facing those
necessary changes. And these changes
are not one-off instances. They will
come in waves, little by little every day.
It is important that we minimise our fear
and negative thoughts, as well as avoid
the ‘business as usual‘ mindset.
In every aspect of our job, our
minds should be focused on Service
Excellence and Competitiveness, while
at the same time continuing to work
towards achieving maximum results.
Should challenges arise at any step
of the way, stay focused to core
problems and keep asking ‘why?‘.
There is no need to overreact if
‘think simple and simplify everything‘
will suffice.
Whether or not one faces problems
should not stop us from moving
forward. Instead, this should sharpen
our skills and push us to be better.
Failure makes perfect. What’s most
important is to not be reactive, but,
rather push to be proactive. Focus
on resolving problems, establishing
solutions and ensuring that the
same issues do not repeat
themselves in the future.
Changes and growth will open
up doors for new opportunities
and innovations. The results will feel
fresh and challenging. Let us all start
now to avoid being caught up in
stagnation or complacency. As the
saying goes: “If you do not create
change, change will create you”.
It is these efforts that are at
the core of Garuda Indonesia’s
continuous work and in our
commitment to provide the best
services for our customers amidst
an increasingly tight competition
in the aviation industry.
