Borobudur Temple, Central Java
Photography plays a big role in Indonesian
history. The richness of Indonesia’s cultural
differences, heritage and bio diversity is
beautifully captured with the help of the
photographer’s skills. An aerial view of paddy
fields and forests surrounding Magelang’s
Borobudur Temple, Central Java, was taken
while flying over the temple in 1928. The
Borobudur Temple is one of the most
prominent cultural sites in Indonesia. The
other two photographs depict people from
Nias, North Sumatra, in their daily activities.
The pictures, captured in 1867, show Nias
women wearing traditional clothes and
jewellery, and Nias men with shields,
spears and blunderbusses.
