Garner Parks , Recreation & Cultural Resources ( PRCR ) brings people together , fostering community connections and a deeper appreciation for our natural resources . In the cover photo , PRCR staff and Garner After School Club participants proudly share their love for Garner ’ s parks and camps .
In Garner ’ s 2024 National Community Survey , 80 % of respondents rated the overall quality of our parks and recreation opportunities as excellent or good . Why does this matter ? According to the National Recreation and Park Association , parks are essential for physical activity and outdoor engagement , which lead to improved mental health , better physical well-being , and increased activity levels . Research shows that people who use parks and open spaces are three times more likely to achieve recommended levels of physical activity and children with access to parks and recreation facilities have lower rates of obesity .
These are just a few of the reasons Garner remains dedicated to supporting parks and recreation . We ’ re excited about the development of Yeargan Park , set to break ground in 2025 , and we look forward to continuing to welcome you to our events , programs , leagues , performances , and parks !
