BOND PROJECTS UPDATE

In November 2021 , Garner voters overwhelmingly approved four bond questions that authorized the Town of Garner to issue up to $ 69 million in general obligation bonds —$ 35.5 million for parks and recreation , $ 24.05 million for streets and sidewalks , $ 6.5 million for public safety and services facilities , and $ 2.95 million for stormwater projects .

Much of the work on the resulting bond projects has been behind the scenes , but there also have been some major developments for the public to see . The most notable completed bond project so far is the Caddy Road Public Safety Station , which opened in June 2024 . The station is in the heart of the fast-growing U . S . 401-Ten Ten Road area . It houses Garner Fire-Rescue and Wake County EMS and also includes touchdown space for the Garner Police Department .
Planning , design , and construction for several other 2021 bond projects are well underway too . The Town is moving forward with phase 1 of Yeargan Park on East Garner Road . Phase 1 amenities will include four athletic fields , an inclusive playground , a shelter with restrooms and covered seating , and Garner Road frontage improvements with a 10-foot multi-use path . The Town plans a groundbreaking for the park project later this winter or early spring .
The 2021 Bond Program also will help fund other Parks , Recreation & Cultural Resources projects including :
Yeargan Park Phase 1
• Renovations to the Garner Senior Center , including restroom and HVAC updates ;
• Installation of an accessible playground and a fitness circuit on the Garner Recreation Center field .
Construction on some of these projects should begin in 2025 . ( Also in the works in 2025 but not funded by bonds is a new inclusive playground and splashpad at White Deer Park .)
In early 2026 , residents should see work begin on the extension of the South Garner Greenway . This project involves installation of a 1.75-mile multi-use greenway path and pedestrian bridge along Buffaloe Road , connecting Lake Benson Park to the Vandora Springs Drive roundabout . This multi-use path will connect several neighborhoods to nearby parks and events .
In 2025 , residents also will notice sidewalk connector work on the west side of Aversboro Road at Zinnia Lane near the Poole Family YMCA — a project that will improve connectivity to White Deer and Lake Benson Parks .
