Staff Transitions
Special events continued to play a vital role in strengthening community connections throughout the 2024 – 2025 fiscal year.
Signature events drew thousands of participants, including the July 3 Independence Day Celebration, which welcomed more than 11,000 attendees for live music and fireworks; Trick or Treat the Trail at White Deer Park, attracting over 4,000 visitors who enjoyed candy and treats from 51 vendor booths; and Spring Eggstravaganza, engaging more than 3,200 patrons in egg hunts and spring-themed activities. Additional highlights included Festival Latino, Friday Family Flicks, and the Holiday Block Party, all offering inclusive, family-friendly experiences for residents.
The department welcomed six new staff during the fiscal year: Matt Beard, Parks & Greenways Planning Manager; Cathy Dalton, Superintendent of Parks & Nature; Martha Fisk, Recreation Program Specialist at White Deer Park; Jonathan Jackson, Recreation Program Specialist – Athletics; Kevin McClain, Recreation Specialist – Athletics; and Jamari Prim, Recreation Specialist – Youth Recreation. Shelby Paustian was promoted to Special Events Coordinator.
Victor Davis retired at the end of March 2025 from his position as Recreation Program Specialist after 14 years of service to the Town. Four other long-time staff members, Katie Lockhart, Megan Young, Allison Murphy, and Kayla Bender accepted new positions outside of the Town of Garner.
