How to Quote Automatic Door
Repair Jobs
You should always charge at least a travel fee for any automatic door repair job. This
fee should cover the cost it takes you to travel to and from the job, AKA your gas and
mileage. Sometimes an automatic door repair job will just be a quick fix and
sometimes the repair can be large such as broken glass or a completely inoperable
door due to some parts failure. Make sure you quote the job accordingly. Generally,
you should add 80-90% on top of material cost for your automatic door repair
quotes. This should cover your labor cost for the job. Add your labor cost and
material cost to your gas and mileage minimum to get your total quote.
Try to keep the pricing between a small fix a large fix within an acceptable range.
This will help you build a great rapport with your client and may even drive some
referrals. This can be hard to do with large problems such as broken glass since the
material cost will be higher. But remember, with commercial clients your goal is to
gain and maintain repeat customers. Always be upfront and manage your client's
expectations so there is no sticker shock with your quotes.
If you decide to subcontract your automatic door repair job, remember you are
trying to keep the client as a repeat customer. Add only 20% on top of your
subcontractors cost. Remember that subcontracting has additional risks. Make sure
your subcontractor is able to deliver the same level of quality that you would be able
to perform.
