cloudbursts in Pithoragarh and Chamoli districts. As of 28 th July, Assam Disaster Management Authority reported that more than 1.7 million people are affected by flood in 19 districts of Assam. The current wave of floods in Assam has claimed 26 lives in the state. Over 400 relief camps were set up in the state, housing over 2,40,000 displaced by flooding. State and Central Government are still clueless to find out long term solution to tackle the recurring problem and expressed their concern. Several days of heavy rain in parts of Western India has resulted in flooding in the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat. Local media reports that water has been released from the Gangapur dam, which has in turn increased levels of Godavari and Darna rivers. The bridge situated in Mahad, Raigad district and forming part of Mumbai-Goa Highway over the river Savitri collapsed and about 20 people died. Floods were reported in the districts of Valsad, Chhota Udepur, Navsari and Surat after heavy rains. PTI reports that at least 5 people died when Damanganga river in Valsad district and Ambika river in Navsari district crossed the danger level and flooded several villages in the area.
Bihar floods worsen leaving 60 dead and 3,80,000 displaced in the districts of Purnea, Katihar, Supaul, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Gopalganj, Saharsa and Araria. In West Bengal at least 4 persons have died in floods in the three north Bengal districts, in which about 58,000 people have been affected in 150 villages due to inundation of flood waters in Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar districts.“ The deaths occurred either due to drowning, wall collapse or snake bite in the flooded waters”, Disaster Department Secretary S Suresh Kumar said. In Jalpaiguri district, administration had issued a red alert, officials said. Among the worst affected areas are Kalchini, Chitmahal, Kumargram, Phulbari and Dabgram.
