Complex Problems have many variables. Deep understanding is difficult if students can't use information.

Video Games encourage "system thinking" which is when participants create a model of a complex system in their minds. They use the rules of the game to navigate through the challenges and refer to this model in their mind.

Games also promote "situated meaning" where words are associated with an image, action, and/or experiences.

These two concepts lead to deeper understanding.

Schools teach students the meaning of words with verbal meanings. Learning concepts without attaching an action or experience leads to rote memorization, not deep understanding.
