Backyard

T
he outdoor rink is a sanctuary for a young hockey player
during the cold winter months. It is a place where young
players can develop their skating, fine tune their shot, and
perfect their goal celebration for when the moment comes. It is a
place where the harsh elements of winter are ignored and players
can imagine they’re skating side-by-side with their ho ckey idols in
the biggest game of their lives.
And for a few lucky Manitoba Moose fans, that dream became a
reality.
The Backyard Rink Contest is a tradition with the Manitoba Moose
and clearly fans were happy the initiative was brought back. With
an overwhelming amount of entries to choose from, the Scarcello
family rink was selected based on creativity, effort, and most im-
portantly, the community feel. The rink is not only used by the Scar-
cellos, but by all the kids in the neighborhood. With an electronic
scoreboard, fire pit area (the Original Hot Stove Lounge), and per-
