and had 15 goals and 29 points in 44 games.
Both Giesbrecht and Eastman consider their parents to be the
most influential people in their lives. Jens’ mom, Jennifer, is a teach-
er and his dad, Dale, is an accountant. He also has an older brother,
Anders, who still plays beer league hockey. Skyler’s dad Garth was a
star with the MMJHL’s River East Royal Knights, captained a cham-
pionship Royal Knights team and represented Canada in the Nagano
Cup.
They both admitted they were kind of disappointed with the way
the season turned out, having both penciled in the Riels as a Top 4
team this season.
“We thought we’d impact the league this year having a more vet-
eran team but we lost a lot of one-goal games this season and en-
dured a lot of injuries,” said Eastman. “I thought we’d make a good
run in the playoffs and surprise some teams and be the spoilers, but
that’s not how it turned out.”
Despite the disappointment of missing out on a championship in
their final seasons in the MMJHL, both Jens Giesbrecht and Skyler
Eastman were outstanding ambassadors for the league -- a league
that allowed them to play great hockey in front of solid crowds while
still giving them a chance to become first-rate students and future
community leaders. n

Skyler: “Stonewall Jets.”
Jens: “Stonewall Jets.”

Skyler: “Jens Giesbrecht.”
Jens: “Matt Gardner, even the coaches laugh at him.”
Who is the smartest guy on the team?

Skyler: “Apart from me, my brother Triston, who is also destined for
med school.”
